Yoga can be beneficial for your sport performance because the asanas, the movements in yoga both strengthens and stretches your muscles and works for a muscular balance.

When you do sports, you usually use the same muscles a lot. Some muscles become stronger and often shorter while other muscles are weaker in comparison. This leads your body to come out of muscular balance, which in the long term often leads to injuries. A corner stone for sports top level performance is long periods of persistent training. 

Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) are important parts of yoga and can enhance your recovery in between your training. With meditation, the activity in the sympathetic nervous system decreases and the activity in the parasympathetic increases. This is of great value for the body to be able to relax and recover and also to enhance concentration and to have a positive mind.
